This intensive 16-hour course aims to develop good teachers into master educators. The course consists of a series of eight two-hour interactive seminars, designed to impart advanced techniques to participants. 

Seminar Components

  • A lecture component introducing certain educational concepts related to pedagogical skill
  • A videotape review that enables participants to identify the specific behaviors learned in the lecture component
  • A role-playing segment, where participants can begin practicing these behaviors

About the Course

The course is based on the Stanford Faculty Development Program, a train-the-trainer model of improving teaching skills of medical faculty, which launched in 1986. 

Dr. Jeremy Smith was trained to run the course in 2003 and has been conducting sessions annually since then. Since 2011, 133 UW School of Medicine and Public Health clinicians have been trained in the program.
