This team is led by the Vice Chairs of Research. Membership tenure is for the duration of each member’s DOM administrative position.

Research Committees

Membership to a committee is for a three-year term with the option to renew for another three-year term. These groups will meet no less than twice a year with overall frequency determined by the committee chairs or the vice chairs of research. The DOM research study section and the research cultivation committee are supported by DOM Office of Research Services staff.

Research Study Section

Objectives
  1. To provide NIH-style reviews of the General Research and Team Science Pilots with prioritization and summary statements that will be shared with the study teams for constructive feedback to enhance future proposals.
  2. To help convene ad hoc, pre-submission review teams to help improve extramural career development (e.g. K08/K23) and first independent (e.g. New Investigator R01) proposals. This could include enlisting content expertise from reviewers not serving a regular term on the DOM Study Section.
  3. To conduct an internal review and make recommendations to the Research Council regarding internal and external funding proposals that limit the number of applicants for each Department, School or Institution.
  4. To provide feedback and recommendations to the Research Council regarding the development of research policies and procedures, Pilot initiatives and prioritization of funding applications.
  5. To support the department's annual Research Day by serving as poster session judges the day of the event, or recruiting delegates as needed.

Research Education Committee

Objectives
  1. To promote standards of excellence in research mentorship and review mentor-mentee matching processes as requested (e.g., Shapiro, Residents). 
  2. To make recommendations to the Department of Medicine chair regarding research honors/awards.
  3. To organize Research Day and/or other events in such fashion as to highlight the exemplary research and scholarship in the department. 
    1. Regularly attend planning meetings and actively engage in the event planning process.
    2. Assist in identifying session chairs and other event facilitators.
    3. Review abstracts and recruit poster session judges.
    4. Attend events and/or other event-related functions as requested.
  4. To act as division liaisons, facilitating the dissemination of information about programs and services available to residents and fellows.
