How our program prepared her:
“While I worked with many wonderful faculty at UW, my two mentors were Dr. Sumona Saha and Dr. Freddy Caldera. I learned so much while working with them in clinic and discussing interesting cases/journal articles. They both took me under their wing to allow me to explore my interest in inflammatory bowel disease, and they both continue to be great mentors, colleagues and friends.”
Meet an Alum: Dr. Alan Gunderson

Post-graduate employment: Clinical associate professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Also medical director of liver transplantation and digestive health clinics, and OPTN Liver and Intestine Transplantation Committee Region 8 representative.
How our program prepared him:
“The UW GI and Hepatology fellowship offered an extensive didactic curriculum and clinical training alongside renowned faculty experts in liver disease and gastrointestinal endoscopy in university, community, and VA health systems.
Dr. Michael Lucey was an important influence on my career choice and trajectory. His clinical teaching, joyful interest in the field, and warm interactions with patients and colleagues are virtues I hope to emulate. The effect of Dr. Adnan Said's guidance through transplant hepatology program training, early career advice, and continued amiable support have been considerable.”
