MED699: Independent Study

MED699 is a directed, independent study course for UW-Madison undergraduate students.

In this individualized learning opportunity, students work in labs under the supervision of Department of Medicine research faculty, often with the mentorship of a postdoctoral researcher or graduate student.

Students can enroll in 1-5 credits.

How to Enroll

  1. Review Department of Medicine research and identify your area of interest.
  2. Contact the principal investigator (PI) and present your proposed independent study plan. Please include the number of credits you are seeking, your goals/learning outcomes and your contact information.
  3. Once the PI has approved your plan, complete the 699 enrollment form.
  4. Student or lab submits completed enrollment form to:
    1. SMPH Student Services (studentservices@med.wisc.edu).
    2. Abigail Rudzianis (arudzianis@medicine.wisc.edu).
    3. Keep a copy of the form for your records.
  5. SMPH Student Services will send enrollment instructions to students.
