UW-Madison experts lead sessions at world's largest cancer meeting
Badgers were well-represented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting on June 1-5, 2018 in Chicago, Illinois. Many faculty members who are members of the UW Carbone Cancer Center delivered presentations and led sessions on topics ranging from optimal treatments for early-stage breast cancer to the role of alcohol in causing cancer.
A news release by UW Health noted presentations by the following Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care faculty members.
Pictured at right, in the order listed below,
- Ruth O'Regan, MD, professor and head, discussed evolving approaches in treating triple-negative breast cancer, and led several other sessions;
- Mark Burkard, MD, PhD, associate professor, discussed the use of genomic data in clinical oncology;
- Kari Wisinski, MD, associate professor (CHS), reviewed the results of new breast cancer clinical trials;
- Noelle LoConte, MD, associate professor, led one session on lifestyle changes to prevent cancer and another on cancer prevention, hereditary genetics and epidemiology;
- Dustin Deming, MD, assistant professor, shared new research on biomarkers for anorectal cancer;
- and Douglas McNeel, MD, PhD, presented on immunotherapy and radiopharmaceutical therapy for treatment of prostate cancer.
