Dr. McNeel is a tenured faculty member in the Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care within the Department of Medicine. He is also director of Solid Tumor Immunology Research at the UW Carbone Cancer Center. He has many years of experience as a trainer for a number of graduate programs at UW-Madison. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the Society for the Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC). He is a section editor for SITC's Journal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer.
Dr. McNeel’s clinical interests are in medical oncology, specifically genitourinary cancer.

Dr. McNeel’s research lab focuses on prostate cancer immunology. He studies vaccines for prostate cancer, specifically identifying antigens to target in vaccines, studying the mechanisms of action and resistance to immunization with DNA vaccines, testing the ability of these vaccines to eliminate prostate cancer cells in laboratory models, and translating these studies to human clinical trials. This work has led to over 100 scientific publications, multiple patents, and a spin-off biotech company.
