In memoriam: philanthropist Ed Felten

Ed FeltenWith sadness, the Department of Medicine marks the passing of philanthropist Edward J. “Ed” Felten (pictured at right) of Madison. Mr. Felten died on January 26, 2019 at the age of 80. Through gifts to the UW Carbon Cancer Center, he supported palliative care research by Toby Campbell, MD, MS, associate professor (CHS), Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care. Mr. Felton's philanthropy also supported the work of Laura Dent, MD, PhD, associate professor, Department of Neurology.

A native of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Mr. Felten spent an initial phase of his career in Boston, Massachusetts before moving back to Wisconsin to work at Wisconsin Supply Corporation. He retired in 1999 as CEO of the parent company, First Supply. 

He served as President of the American Supply Association in 1998, and later received a lifetime achievement award from that organization. He co-founded the Bank of Shorewood Hills, and served on its board and the boards of other banking entities.
