Four Department of Medicine faculty elected to Epic Specialty Steering Boards
Four Department of Medicine faculty members were among the 11 UW Health employees recently elected to Epic’s Specialty Steering Boards.
- Patrick Dowling, MD, clinical professor, Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care, was elected to the Pulmonary Steering Board.
- Hamid Emamekhoo, MD, associate professor, Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care, was elected to the Oncology Steering Board.
- Sancia Ferguson, MD, MPH, assistant professor, Rheumatology, was elected to the Rheumatology Steering Board.
- Peter Kleinschmidt, MD, assistant professor, General Internal Medicine, was elected to the Primary Care Steering Board.
Specialty Steering Board members represent fellow specialists across the Epic community. Each 8- to 12-member board meets monthly to determine targeted improvements for their specialty that can be designed and developed with Epic specialty leads.
Members are nominated and elected by their peers and serve a two-year term.
Election to a Specialty Steering Board can be competitive, notes Heidi Twedt, MD, professor, General Internal Medicine, and associate chief medical information officer at UW Health.
“Having physicians on Specialty Steering Boards allows UW to have a stronger voice at the table in Epic’s future development, and to better represent our providers and our patients,” she said.
