Shivani Garg, MD, MS, assistant professor, Rheumatology, was the lead author on a study that found Black patients with lupus in the U.S. have a three times higher risk of stroke and a 24-fold higher risk for ischemic heart disease. The researchers also identified risk factors that were predictive of stroke and ischemic heart disease in these patients. The study highlights significant racial disparities in patients with lupus. This was a plenary presentation at the American College of Rheumatology Convergence Meeting on November 6, 2020. Christie Bartels, MD, MS, associate professor, Rheumatology was a co-author of the study.
