Dr. Marin Schweizer named Vice Chair for Clinical and Translational Research

Effective March 1, 2025, Marin Schweizer, PhD, professor, Infectious Disease, will become the Department of Medicine's next Vice Chair for Clinical and Translational Research.
"I am looking forward to collaborating with Dr. Schnapp, the Office of Research Services team, and DOM researchers to promote and advocate for the innovative research being done within the Department of Medicine," says Dr. Schweizer.
In this role, she will support the recruitment and professional development of clinical, translational and health services researchers in the department. She will also be the department's primary liaison to the University of Wisconsin Clinical Trials Institute (UW CTI) and the UW Health/School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) Research Operations Committee (UROC).
Dr. Schweizer leads research on preventing Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infections and surgical site infections, as well as research on reducing unnecessary tests before surgery and excessive antibiotics among surgical patients.
She also co-directs the KL2 Scholars program at the UW Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR), which provides research funding and training to junior faculty members interested in clinical and translational research.
She succeeds Loren Denlinger, MD, PhD, William W. and Judith H. Busse Professor in Allergy and Asthma Research, Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, who held the role since February 2021.
