Dr. Matthew Tattersall is a faculty member in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and in Cardiovascular Diseases, a specialist of the American Society of Hypertension in Clinical Hypertension, and a diplomate of the National Board of Echocardiography in Adult Comprehensive Echocardiography. He is the co-director of the UW Advanced Hypertension Clinic, medical director of UW Cardiac Rehabilitation and associate director of the UW Atherosclerosis Imaging Research Program. He serves as a member on the Data Safety Monitoring Board, Midwest Area Research Consortium for Health (MARCH), and UW Institute of Clinical and Translational Research.
Dr. Tattersall was selected to attend the American Heart Association’s prestigious 10-day Seminar on Epidemiology and Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases and the American Heart Association Research Leaders Academy. He is the recipient of the 2020 Dr. Benjamin and Marian Schuster Prize in Research from the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. In 2017, he earned the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis “Young Investigator Award” through his work in the National Heart Lung Blood Institute’s (NHLBI) Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis study, and was awarded the 2014 University of Wisconsin Department of Medicine’s Helen Dickie Research Award.
Dr. Tattersall’s clinical focus is on general cardiovascular medicine, advanced hypertension, dyslipidemia/high cholesterol, and preventive cardiology.

Dr. Tattersall’s research interest is in preventive cardiology, with a focus on subclinical cardiovascular disease, cardiovascular epidemiology and shared inflammatory overlap of cardiovascular disease with respiratory diseases.
He currently holds an American Heart Association Career Development Award, a Wisconsin Partnership Program New Investigator Award and is the site PI and steering committee member of the NHLBI-funded INfluenza Vaccine to Effectively Stop cardioThoracic Events and Decompensated heart failure Trial (INVESTED trial).
