Professional Activities

Dr. Daniel Shirley is a faculty member in the Division of Infectious Diseases within the Department of Medicine. He serves as the Medical Director for Infection Prevention for UW Health (University Hospital, AFCH, EMH). He is involved in implementation and quality improvement activities related to Infection Prevention in low and middle income countries. He is the co-chair of the Pandemic Preparedness subcommittee and has a special interest in emerging infectious diseases. Dr. Shirley is involved in medical education, serving as group instructor, preceptor, and research mentor.

Clinical Specialties

Dr. Shirley’s clinical interests include prevention of healthcare-associated infections, emerging infectious diseases, and general infectious disease.

Research Interests

Dr. Shirley’s research centers on effective implementation of Infection Prevention practices in a global health setting and preparing for emerging infections. He also continues to work on quality improvement projects related to the prevention of hospital-acquired infections at UW Health.
