Professional Activities

Dr. Nathan Sandbo is a faculty member in the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine within the Department of Medicine and the Director of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation Care Center. Dr. Sandbo is a member of numerous professional societies including the American Thoracic Society, Central Society for Clinical and Translational Research, and the American Society of Matrix Biology.

Clinical Activities

Dr. Sandbo’s clinical emphasis is on the diagnosis and management of interstitial lung diseases (ILDs), such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. His clinics focus on ILD and currently interface with the interstitial lung disease group at the University of Wisconsin, the pathophysiology of critical illness, and work as a critical care service attending in the Trauma and Life Support Center (TLC) and Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NeuroICU).

Research Interests

View. Dr. Nathan Sandbo's publications on NCBI MyBibliography.

Dr. Sandbo’s laboratory-based research program focuses on fibroblast biology and signaling in the context of tissue remodeling and pulmonary fibrosis with an emphasis on the interaction between cell shape/cytoskeletal reorganization, downstream intracellular signaling/transcriptional regulation, and interaction of with the extracellular matrix in this context. The identification of key molecular mechanisms that regulate matrix formation during lung fibrosis, with an eye toward the development of diagnostics and therapeutics is a primary area of focus.
