Professional Activities

Dr. Maria Mora Pinzon is a faculty member in the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology within the Department of Medicine. Board certified in preventative medicine and public health, Dr. Mora Pinzon has served in several committees of the American College of Preventive Medicine—most recently completing a term as the membership committee chair—and is a member of the National Hispanic Medical Association – Young Physician Section. She is also President-Elect of the Medical Organization for the Latino Advancement in Wisconsin and Vice-Chair of the Health Policy Professional Interest Areas of The Alzheimer’s Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment (ISTAART).

Among her awards, Dr. Mora Pinzon was selected as 2018 Young Physician of the Year by the National Hispanic Medical Association, 2020 William Kane Rising Start Award from the American College of Preventive Medicine, and more recently named by Medscape as one of the 25 Rising Stars in Medicine. She is also an REC scholar with the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) and in 2022 received a K99/R00 from the National Institute of Aging to fund her project, “Improving Access to Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia’s Care Services for Latinx Individuals at Community Health Clinics."

Clinical Specialties

Dr. Mora Pinzon's clinical interests include preventive medicine and lifestyle medicine for the promotion of brain health, and primary and secondary prevention of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias.

As a physician scientist, Dr. Mora Pinzon's research seeks to improve healthcare access for patients living with dementias and their caregivers, particularly among Latino populations, through outreach activities for Latino communities, and the development of research and educational opportunities for students from underrepresented backgrounds in medicine.
