Dr. James Maloney is a faculty member in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine within the Department of Medicine. He is the Section Chief of Thoracic Surgery at UW Hospitals and Clinics, the Chief of Transplant Surgery Services at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Administration Hospital, Director of Adult ECMO Services, University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics and Chief – Section of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Middleton Memorial Veterans Administration Hospital. Dr. Maloney is a member of numerous VA Hospital committees, including the Veterans Administration Thoracic Transplant Board, the Veterans Administration Transplant Surgery Advisory Board, and the VA Hospital Invasive Procedure and Blood Usage Review
Dr. Maloney’s clinical interests include general thoracic and oncologic surgery, including treatment of lung cancer. His practice includes minimally invasive surgery, including treatment of mediastinal disease, thoracoscopic lobectomy, lung volume reductions surgery (LVRS), minimally-invasive esophagectomy and endoscopic sympathectomy. Dr. Maloney is a nationally recognized leader in VATS lobectomy procedures, and offers training in VATS to surgeons from across the country at UW Health.
Dr. Maloney’s research interests focus on outcomes in lung cancer and lung transplant patients, treatment of emphysema, and informatics in specialty care.
