Dr. Griffith is a faculty member of the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Medicine. Prior to his arrival at UW-Madison, he practiced in Michigan and was a faculty member at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and a member of the American College of Physicians, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the American Thoracic Society.
As a medical educator, Dr. Griffith has been involved in curriculum development in pulmonary medicine and instructed trainees and students in internal medicine and family practice residency programs, pulmonary fellowship programs, medical students, nurse practitioner programs, and physician assistant programs. He has delivered clinical presentations on topics including functional lung pathology and the cardiopulmonary exercise test, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, hypercapnia, and sepsis. He has served as a volunteer counselor for a camp serving children with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders, as a medical provider to the underserved, and as a volunteer lecturer on lung biology in public schools. Honors and awards presented to Dr. Griffith include the Michigan State College of Human Medicine and LECOM affiliate Instructor of the Year Award, the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine Outstanding Faculty Award (in 2005 and 2012), the Maquette General Hospital 2010 Physician of the Year Award, and the Marquette General Health System/Family Medicine Residency Program 2009-2010 Faculty of the Year Award.
Dr. Griffith's medicinal interests include internal medicine and pulmonary and critical care medicine. His procedural skills include pleural-based techniques (Surgical tube thoracostomy, tunneled Pleurx catheter, medical pleurodesis, Thal-quick thoracostomy, ultrasound guided basic thoracentesis, ultrasound guided Thal-quick thoracostomy/abscess drainage), bronchoscopic techniques, vascular access, advanced ultrasound techniques in the critical care setting, and cardiopulmonary exercise testing/VO2.
