Dr. Famouri is a faculty member in the Division of General Internal Medicine within the Department of Medicine. She was recognized as a Tinsley Harrison Research Scholar and is a recipient of the Jessie B. and Dean Gray Scholars Housestaff Award for her accomplishments in clinical care and research. She is also a recipient of the North Carolina American College of Physicians Education Innovation Grant, in which she developed a resident curriculum to address microaggressions from patients using standardized patient simulations. Dr. Famouri is an active member of the American College of Physicians and the Society of General Internal Medicine.
Dr. Famouri's clinical interests include general internal medicine, preventive medicine, and social determinants of health.
Dr. Famouri's research interests include health policy, equity, and medical education. Her background includes research and public health interventions in policy and health equity. Previous projects include research focusing on hepatitis C and HIV infection in persons who use drugs in Kazakhstan and HPV vaccine health promotion in rural primary care clinics. As a resident, she also studied the effects of ACA Medicaid expansion on health outcomes.
