Professional Activities
Paula Cynkar is a member of the Division of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Medicine where she serves as the Advance Practice Provider Supervisor for Hospital Medicine and Infectious Disease. She has served in a variety of informal and formal leadership roles, including co-establishing the Advance Practice Provider Scope of Practice Committee.
As a hospitalist, Paula Cynkar focuses on providing care to adult patients in inpatient settings. She is a member of the Society of Hospital Medicine, American Academy of Physician Assistants/Associates and the Wisconsin Academy of Physician Assistants. She is also co-chair of the Wisconsin Academy of Physician Assistants Advance Practice Provider Leadership Coalition. Within her leadership position, she has influenced policies to enable APPs to work at the top of their practice. She advocated for legal changes that expanded and supported advanced practice across Wisconsin. Her lobbying efforts and testimony were instrumental in the passing of Senate Bill 254(2019), CARES Act 23(2022), and PA Licensure Compact Act 81(2023), expanding and supporting APP practice.
Paula Cynkar was awarded the UW Health Advanced Practice Provider Excellence in Leadership Award in 2021.
