Dr. Elizabeth Chapman is a faculty member in the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology in the Department of Medicine. She is also associate director of education and evaluation at the Madison VA Geriatrics Research Education and Clinical Center. She holds multiple administrative roles, including program director of the Geriatric Medicine fellowship program, medical director for Post-Acute Care, Geriatric Transitional Care, and the Acute Care for Elders service at University Hospital, and medical advisor for UW Health Care Direct.
Dr. Chapman is a member of the American Geriatrics Society and the Society for Post-Acute and Long Term Care Medicine. She has been inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health Gold Humanism Honor Society, and Phi Beta Kappa. Past honors include the Evans-Glassroth Teaching Award, the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award, the David Sunde Humanitarian Award, and the Sobby Mathew MD Award. She provides clinical and classroom instruction to medical students, residents, and fellows and co-leads the UW School and Medicine and Public Health Biology of Aging Course.
Dr. Chapman provides consultative geriatrics care for older adults in the inpatient settings at University Hospital and the William S. Middleton Memorial VA Medical Center. Her interests include delirium, functional decline, and determination of decisional capacity in older adults with cognitive impairment.
Dr. Chapman's scholarly work has focused on the development of educational interventions for physician trainees and other health professionals in the care of geriatric patients during and after hospitalization. She has also published book chapters on the topics of transitional care, behavioral health needs of older adults in the emergency department, and teaching geriatrics to resident physicians.
