World AIDS Day 2017 event offered information and hope
Since 1988, December 1 has been designated as World AIDS Day - an international day to raise awareness of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Media coverage of the 2017 World AIDS Day public event offered by the UW Health HIV/AIDS Comprehensive Care Program described the impact of the epidemic in Wisconsin, where the number of diagnoses has increased among young men, particularly men of color.
In 2016, more than 40 percent of new HIV cases occurred in males aged 13-19, and two-thirds of nearly diagnosed individuals were people of color.
A public event held on November 30, 2017 at the Goodman Community Center in Madison, Wisconsin offered information and resources. UW Health and the UW-Madison site of the Midwest AIDS Training and Education Center host World AIDS Day events each year for the public and practicing clinicians.
