In wake of FDA warnings to companies for false claims, oncologists urge more communication
Sam Lubner, MD, assistant professor (CHS), Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care, was interviewed for a WISC-TV story about the Food and Drug Administration issuing warning letters to 14 companies that the agency says are selling products that falsely claim to cure cancer.
Dr. Lubner said he has patients for whom products such as these have caused harm.
“I’ve seen patients who have been indirectly harmed in the sense that, we had a chance to give them effective therapies, but because they made different choices, their cancer progressed in ways that maybe we could have slowed down or prevented,” he said.
