From January, 2017 through December, 2017, a total of 22 Department of Medicine faculty members, staff members, and trainees served as volunteer clinician members for MEDiC, a student-led organization that runs seven free health clinics throughout the Madison area.

Founded in 1990 by former Department of Medicine faculty member Ted Goodfriend, MD, MEDiC was established with a goal of improving the health of the underserved in the Madison area while also enhancing the education of University of Wisconsin-Madison health professions students. In 2011, MEDiC was honored by President Obama with the President’ s Volunteer Service Award.

Clinic locations include the Porchlight, Inc. men's shelter at Grace Episcopal Church, More Smiles Wisconsin, Michele Tracey Preventive Health Cinic, RISE Pediatric Clinic, the MEDiC Mental Health Clinic, Salvation Army Clinic, and Southside Clinic.
