Through the work of the UW-Madison Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Center, UW has remained at the forefront of the stem cell field - which is celebrating a 20-year milestone of the first derivation of human embryonic stem cells by James Thomson, VMD, PhD, professor, Department of Cell and Regenerative Biology and vice chair for research and graduate education, School of Medicine and Public Health. 

Launched in May 2007 and currently led by Timothy Kamp, MD, PhD (pictured above), professor, Cardiovascular Medicine, the center serves as an intellectual and collaborative hub for a broad-based, interdisciplinary research community. 

"I’m delighted that the SCRMC has helped stir the pot, bringing together center members from diverse disciplines to build collaborative projects that are pushing these discoveries forward," said Dr. Kamp.
