New faculty Q&A with Melissa MacDonald, MD
Melissa MacDonald, MD
Assistant Professor
Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
What is your primary professional focus in any or all of our mission areas (clinical, research, and/or medical education)?
I enjoy the variety of clinical experiences my new position will offer me in critical care as well as inpatient and outpatient general pulmonary both at UW and the VA. I have always enjoyed medical education, so I am looking forward to dedicating more time to working with and teaching trainees of various levels: fellows, residents, and medical students.
What drew you to UW-Madison and the Department of Medicine?
I was drawn to UW for residency as the program seemed like the perfect fit for me and was closer to family. I enjoyed my time at UW and the education I received so much that I stayed for my pulmonary and critical care fellowship and was happy to have the opportunity to stay on as a new faculty member. I have enjoyed the collegial and supportive environment here at UW.
What are you most excited about during your first year with the department in this role?
I am looking forward to expanding my pulmonary and critical care skills in my various roles here at UW and the VA. I am also looking forward to taking on an active role in the leadership of the pulmonary and critical care fellowship program in order to help fellows continue to have a wonderful and educational experience during their time at UW.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I enjoy spending time with family and friends, baking, exploring new restaurants in town as well as spending time outdoors. I also enjoy traveling both in the US and around the world.
