New faculty Q&A with Margaret Walker, MD, MPH
Margaret Walker, MD, MPH
Assistant Clinical Professor
Hospital Medicine
What is your primary professional focus as it relates to our mission areas (clinical, research and/or medical education)?
My current professional focus is on clinical care as a hospitalist. I am currently working at both University Hospital and East Meriter Hospital.
What drew you to UW–Madison and the Department of Medicine?
I was fortunate to have trained at UW as an internal medicine resident. I have loved the area and the people. When it came time to apply for a hospitalist position, I wished to continue working within this system.
What are you most excited about during your first year with the department in this role?
I am excited to learn. The first months as an attending have already been a steep learning curve. I look forward to continued lessons as I move forward in this position.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
When not working, I enjoy being outside. Hiking, biking, and camping in the area are among my favorite activities. With inclement weather, I also enjoy reading and cooking!
Favorite piece of advice from a mentor or inspiring figure in your life?
More recently, my favorite advice has been "Be where your feet are." Meaning, dedicate yourself to the area/task at hand, be in the moment, and try not to let other areas seep into each other. I have found this concept helpful when balancing clinical, research, and personal responsibilities.
