What is your primary professional focus in any or all of our mission areas (clinical, research, and/or medical education)?
My professional focus is both clinical practice and medical education. I am interested in transitions of care and in improving efficiency in the division of hospital medicine.

What drew you to UW-Madison and the Department of Medicine?
I completed residency in internal medicine at UW-Madison, and was initially drawn here by the strength of the residency program and the collegiality among the residents. I decided to stay on here as a hospitalist for similar reasons: I was drawn to the collegiality among the hospitalists and felt it would be a privilege to supervise the medical residents on the wards.

What are you most excited about during your first year with the department in this role?
I have just about completed my first year with the department. I think I finally have my feet under me from the day-to-day perspective, so I'm excited to begin exploring quality improvement projects and work on building my skills as a medical educator.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my family. I'm especially looking forward to the birth of my second child in a couple of months.

Favorite piece of advice from a mentor or inspiring figure in your life?
My favorite piece of advice comes from Yogi Berra: "You can observe a lot by just watching." Surprisingly good advice for evaluating a patient.
