New faculty Q&A with Heidi Twedt, MD
Heidi Twedt, MD
Clinical Professor
General Internal Medicine
What is your primary professional focus in any or all of our mission areas (clinical, research, and/or medical education)?
My primary focus is Clinical Informatics. I serve as Associate Chief Medical Information Officer for UW Health and Academic Director of graduate programs in Clinical and Health Informatics for SMPH. My clinical focus is general internal medicine and work as a float physician in GIM.
What drew you to UW-Madison and the Department of Medicine?
I was drawn to UW-Madison for the broader range of informatics and teaching opportunities.
What are you most excited about during your first year with the department in this role?
I am excited about the great teams of people we have at UW and UW Health.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I enjoy gardening and fiber arts (knitting, cross stitch, needle felting, Huck weaving).
Favorite piece of advice from a mentor or inspiring figure in your life?
When I had my very first leadership role, my leader and mentor told me to always tell people the 'why'. I think this is true in leadership but is also true in clinical care. The more time we take to explain ourselves, the more likely others are to follow our lead.
