New faculty Q&A: Dr. Hannah Mallaro

Dr. Hannah Mallaro

Hannah Mallaro, MD

Clinical Assistant Professor
General Internal Medicine

What is your primary professional focus as it relates to our mission areas (clinical, research and/or medical education)?
My primary professional focus is providing excellent clinical care to patients in general internal medicine. I am also interested in getting involved in medical education and teaching medical students and residents in the outpatient setting.

What drew you to UW–Madison and the Department of Medicine?
I wanted to start my career at an academic institution with a strong General Internal Medicine division, supportive people, and lots of opportunities for career growth in a beautiful city where I could raise a family. UW–Madison was the perfect fit!

What are you most excited about during your first year with the department in this role?
I am most excited to start forming relationships with my patients as I build my primary care patient panel. Long term relationships with patients are what drew me to a career in primary care and are such an important part of caring for patients over time.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I enjoy spending time outdoors in my yard gardening and doing yard work. I love traveling to National Parks to hike and explore the natural beauty. My husband and I are also enjoying preparing for the arrival of a baby boy in February.

Favorite piece of advice from a mentor or inspiring figure in your life?
Always stay curious! In medicine there is so much to learn, and curiosity helps drive life-long learning.
