New faculty Q&A: Dr. Cydney Zeman
Cydney Zeman, MD
Clinical Assistant Professor
Cardiovascular Medicine
What is your primary professional focus as it relates to our mission areas (clinical, research and/or medical education)?
I am interested both in medical education, working with trainees at all levels and disciplines, and also clinical work with a focus on medical informatics and how we can improve the way we use our informatics systems to help providers be more efficient, effective, and happy during their workday.
What drew you to UW–Madison and the Department of Medicine?
I trained within the Department of Medicine here for both IM residency and cardiology fellowship as well as rotations through the department as a medical student at UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH). Through those experiences I got to work with the truly amazing people in the department who I learned so much from, and I am excited to be able to continue to work with this group and hopefully contribute to the growth of the learners that come through moving forward.
What are you most excited about during your first year with the department in this role?
I'm most excited to establish my own clinical practice here and start working on more projects to help improve the way we work in the EMR.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I enjoy spending time with my 1.5-year-old daughter and husband when I'm not at work, recently she has been having fun learning how to swim at the local pool. During the warmer months I like to garden and cook with whatever I can grow!
Favorite piece of advice from a mentor or inspiring figure in your life?
My favorite piece of advice I have gotten is to always strive for and ask for the things that you want in life, as nothing will ever happen if you don't even try for it out of fear of failure.
