New faculty Q&A: Dr. Adam Bregman

Dr. Adam Bregman

Adam Bregman, MD, MBA

Assistant Professor
Nephrology

What is your primary professional focus as it relates to our mission areas (clinical, research and/or medical education)?
I am a transplant nephrologist and focus on caring for kidney and/or pancreas transplant patients in any part of their transplant journey, whether that be during evaluation or post-transplant. I am particularly interested in assisting patients with cancer after kidney transplant and helping to mitigate risk of graft loss with different cancer treatments. I am also keenly interested in resident and medical student education, trying to increase the nephrology provider pool of the future!

What drew you to UW–Madison and the Department of Medicine?
Wisconsin is my adopted home and what better place to be than in the state's flagship institution? UW–Madison has the best kidney and pancreas transplant programs in the country so it was always where I wanted to be.

What are you most excited about during your first year with the department in this role?
I am looking forward to working with my colleagues and research mentors on publishing research as well as becoming as involved as possible in medical student/resident education.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I enjoy spending time with my wife and dogs in/around lakes and trails as well as trying the various restaurants in the area.

Favorite piece of advice from a mentor or inspiring figure in your life?
"The path to success is crooked.” Things don't always work out the way I would expect but everything will end up working out the way it should as long as I dedicate my time and energy to it.
