New faculty Q&A with Bipin Sunkara, MD
Bipin Sunkara, MD
Clinical Assistant Professor
Hospital Medicine
What is your primary professional focus in any or all of our mission areas (clinical, research, and/or medical education)?
My work is clinical in nature. However, I am extremely interested in medical education and mentorship. As I become more acclimated to the UW-Madison and the Department of Medicine, I hope to be much more involved with medical education and become a mentor to more medical students and residents.
What drew you to UW-Madison and the Department of Medicine?
The people here at UW-Madison as well as the Department of Medicine are incredible. They are leaders in their respective fields, while they remain so warm and welcoming. It is a true collaborative environment, which makes it a joy to come to work.
What are you most excited about during your first year with the department in this role?
I cannot emphasize how much I enjoy working with the people in this department. I look forward to meeting more of my colleagues. Moving to a new city and hospital makes every day a new and exciting challenge.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I enjoy spending time in the outdoors and being active. I am also a huge sports fan. Do not judge me too hard, but I am from Michigan, so I am a Detroit/Michigan fan.
Favorite piece of advice from a mentor or inspiring figure in your life?
Do what you love and everything else will fall into place soon after.
