Lab led by Dr. Peiman Hematti receives certification from the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy
The Clinical Hematopoietic Cell Processing Laboratory, led by Peiman Hematti, MD, professor, Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care, received certification from the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) to do “more than minimal cell manipulation.”
As the only lab on campus with this accreditation, the lab will now be able to make biological changes to bone marrow or stem cells before reintroducing them to a patient. This will allow for new possibilities to fight cancer.
Research in cancerous bone marrow from Natalie Callander, MD, professor, Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care, helped secure the FACT accreditation.
Now, Aric Hall, MD, assistant professor, Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care, is working on a similar study to Dr. Callander to create a cellular vaccine.
