Jeremy Kratz, MD, internal medicine resident, presented a poster entitled “Intratumor Heterogeneity Predicting Clinical Outcomes of EGFR Targeting in Metastatic Colorectal Cancer” at the Association of American Physicians/American Society for Clinical Investigation/American Physician Scientists Association (AAP/ASCI/APSA) Joint Meeting on April 21-23, 2017 in Chicago, Illinois. 

The meeting is an annual conference designed to feature the work of physician-scientists. It involves each of three professional societies: AAP, which is devoted to the advancement of scientific and practical medicine; ASCI, which is one of the oldest organizations devoted to physician-scientists; and APSA, which addresses the training and career development needs of physician-scientists.

The work presented by Dr. Kratz evaluated the ability of tumor texture analysis to enhance the ability to predict the benefit of cetuximab, a targeted therapeutic agent, in metastatic colorectal cancer. Researchers were able to link pre-treatment tumor characteristics with targeted therapeutic response using CT texture analysis in metastatic colorectal cancer, setting the stage for further investigation of CT texture analysis for non-invasive prediction of treatment response.  

Dr. Kratz is enrolled in the Physician-Scientist Training Program (PSTP) and plans to engage in fellowship training in oncology at the UW-Madison Department of Medicine. He studies under the direction of Dustin Deming, MD, assistant professor, Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care.
