Ruth O'Regan, MD, Department of Medicine professor and chief of the department's Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care, has been named Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium (Big Ten CRC). The organization unites cancer centers at all Big Ten universities to facilitate the progress of clinical research studies in oncology.

Dr. O’Regan is serving a renewable three-year term as CSO.

In this role, she guides the research and scientific mission of the consortium and will work closely with the Steering Committee and Clinical Trial Working Groups to identify and support the most promising clinical trials to be conducted through the consortium.

She provides oversight to ensure the Big Ten CRC conducts research in a scientifically, medically, and ethically robust manner.

In addition, Dr. O'Regan serves as the primary spokesperson for the research and scientific activities of the consortium, and will support the Steering Committee and Clinical Trial Working Groups in their interactions with the biotech and pharmaceutical industry.
