Dr. Nasia Safdar and Dr. Jeniel Nett receive Vilas Professorship Award funding
Two Department of Medicine faculty members have been selected for Vilas Professorship Awards in recognition of research and teaching excellence.
Nasia Safdar, MD, PhD (pictured at right), associate professor, Infectious Disease and vice chair for research, Department of Medicine, will receive a Vilas Faculty Mid-Career Investigator Award, which provides $100,000 over one year. Dr. Safdar's research focuses on healthcare-associated infections, particularly in the acute care setting.
Jeniel Nett, MD, PhD (pictured at far right), assistant professor, Infectious Disease, will receive a Vilas Faculty Early Career Investigator Award, which provides $50,000. Dr. Nett's research focuses on pathogen biofilms, which are sticky sheets of disease-causing microbes that can form on the surfaces of implanted medical devices and that cannot be cleared by the human immune system.
