Francisco Castro, MD, clinical assistant professor, Hospital Medicine, has been appointed as UW Health Department of Corrections Medical Director. 

The role involves acting as a medical liaison between UW Health and leadership of the state Department of Corrections to facilitate appropriate and efficient medical care for inmates while maintaining security. 

Dr. Castro is an alumnus of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He completed his residency in internal medicine (hospitalist track) at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, during which he performed a quality improvement project aimed at appropriately encouraging inhaler use in lieu of nebulizers across the inpatient hospital setting, and served on a committee dedicated to improving the inpatient electronic medical record system.
