Dr. Elizabeth Trowbridge presents at national meeting for Leaders in General Internal Medicine

Dr. Elizabeth Trowbridge

Elizabeth Trowbridge, MD, clinical professor and head, General Internal Medicine, presented a talk entitled “Beyond RVUs: Changing Your Primary Care Compensation Plan from Volume to Value” at the Leon Hess Management Training and Leadership Institute in Washington, DC on April 19, 2017. The institute is offered by the Association of Chiefs and Leaders of General Internal Medicine (ACLGIM), which is part of the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM).

Dr. Trowbridge’s presentation focused on developing compensation plans for internists that support population health management, which was defined as “the right care, for the right patient, at the right time, for lower cost.”

She described an effort led by physician-scholars at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health to construct and implement a new structure for physician compensation that would encompass between-visit care to promote population health. The UW Health Primary Care Redesign initiative resulted in increased patient satisfaction, improved clinical safety metrics, and improved publicly reported preventive care outcomes.
