Dr. Andrea Schnell named residency associate program director for diversity, equity and inclusion
Andrea Schnell, MD, clinical assistant professor, General Internal Medicine, will be joining the education team as a new associate program director, focusing on spearheading residency initiatives for diversity, equity and inclusion.
Dr. Schnell graduated from the University of Wisconsin internal medicine residency program in 2014, as one of the top residents and stayed with the department as faculty. She quickly established herself as a master clinician, winning the Faculty Excellence in Clinical Care Award in 2017, the Department of Medicine Clinical Excellence Award in 2018 and the Department of Medicine Housestaff Physician’s Physician Award the same year.
She is a committed educator, teaching at all levels in both the inpatient and outpatient venues, receiving glowing evaluations from her learners. Dr. Schnell has a particular passion for mentorship, and for fostering a vision of justice and equity in her educational work. Dr. Schnell is in the midst of implementing a grant-funded project exploring faculty and resident experience with patient bias. She is the ideal clinician-educator to help advance our goals of promoting inclusion and diversity within the residency program.
