Dr. Amy Zelenski and Dr. Mariah Quinn give workshop on theatre improv as empathy training

Amy Zelenski, PhD (pictured at upper right), assistant professor (CHS) and Mariah Quinn, MD, MPH (pictured at lower right), assistant professor (CHS), both of General Internal Medicine, presented a workshop entitled "Toying with emotions: using improvisational theatre to teach empathy and communication skills." 

The workshop occurred at the EACH International Association for Communication in Healthcare in London, United Kingdom on September 4, 2017. 

Their session focused on the use of improvisational theatre techniques to help clinicians practice identifying and responding to emotional cues from themselves and their patients.

The annual international conference brings together teachers, researchers, practitioners and policy makers from around the world working to explore and improve all aspects of communication in healthcare from a variety of perspectives.
