Division members make strong showing at the 2018 American Society of Nephrology meeting
Kidney Week 2018 - the annual meeting of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) - occurred in San Diego, California on October 23-28, gathering 12,000 attendees from every aspect of the field of nephrology. UW-Madison representatives included Division of Nephrology members, nine SMPH medical students, and three residents and fellows who received travel grants.
Sana Waheed, MD, assistant professor (CHS), Nephrology, participated in an organizing committee for medical students and trainees.
"Innovation in nephrology is the forefront of our mission, and the government has made a huge commitment to support nephrology research. The future of nephrology education is bright as a lot of presenters talked about changing the way we teach and train fellows," said Dr. Waheed.
"There continues to be interest and growth in nephrology in the US and globally," said Arjang (Aji) Djamali, MD, MS, professor and head, Nephrology. "We continue to cement our leadership role in the areas of education and transplantation."
Dr. Waheed presented a medical education project. "I had an oral presentation on the topic “harnessing technology to enhance medical school curriculum” that showcased the innovations with our UW SMPH ForWard curriculum. It was really well received, with course directors considering integrating similar changes," said Dr. Waheed.
