What does being a chief resident mean to you?
My family has been in Madison for multiple generations. Many family members have graduated from UW–Madison. My grandpa was also a physician trained by Wisconsin back when the medical school was still on University Avenue! I remain deeply proud of this city and university and cannot express how much it has shaped my life and the life of my family. Chief year means a way to give back to this place that has given me so much. Wherever our residents end up, near or far, I hope people can look at their time in Madison, and feel it is a place they can call home and that I contributed to that feeling in some way!

What are you most looking forward to as chief?
I am most looking forward to spending time with my co-chiefs and growing as an educator. My co-chiefs are people I respect as clinicians, researchers and friends. Spending more time learning from each of them and improving our teaching skills is an exciting aspect of our year.

What’s your favorite part of the UW internal medicine residency?
My favorite part of our residency is both the opportunities provided to residents and the relationships we build along the way. Faculty here will do what it takes to get you opportunities in which you are most interested. We can really create our own path in terms of projects and clinical interests. All you have to do is ask! Along the way, we develop deep and lifelong friendships with our co-residents.
