The Gut Microbiome and Alternatives to Antibiotics
Andrew Hryckowian, PhD, is a basic scientist whose research aims to understand the molecular, genetic, and ecological foundations of host-microbe interactions and exploit this understanding to improve human health.
Research Overview
Dr. Hryckowian's lab studies the gut microbiome, with specific foci on host diet, bacterial pathogens and bacteriophages.
The team's overall goal is to build novel concepts and approaches for mitigating pathogen-infested or otherwise problematic microbiomes. This work is especially important given the burgeoning antibiotic resistance crisis and our growing awareness of the myriad ways microbes impact our health.
