Dr. John Rice is a faculty member of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Department of Medicine. He serves as the medical director of the Liver Transplant Program in the UW Health Transplant Center and section chief of Hepatology in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He is a member of the American Society of Transplantation and the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease. Honors received by Dr. Rice include the Clinical Excellence Award from the Department of Medicine and induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha honorary society.
Dr. Rice's medical interests include internal medicine, gastroenterology and hepatology with emphasis on transplant hepatology and management and treatment of hepatitis C.
Dr. Rice's research interests and peer-reviewed publications have focused on hepatitis C treatment, antibody-mediated rejection in liver transplant recipients, endoscopic outcomes, and recurrence of alcoholic liver disease in post-transplant patients. His primary research interest is liver transplant selection and outcomes in patients with alcohol-associated liver disease. He is a co-investigator in the NIH funded American Consortium of Early Liver Transplantation in Alcoholic Hepatitis.
