Dr. Sara McCoy is a faculty member in the Division of Rheumatology within the Department of Medicine. She is a clinical rheumatologist, the director of the UW Health Sjögren’s clinic, and a core member of the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center.
Dr. McCoy is a member of several professional societies, including the American College of Rheumatology and the Sjögren’s Foundation. She is a member of the 2023-2024 Sjögren’s Foundation Board of Directors and the OMERACT (Outcome Measures in Rheumatology) Working Group.
Dr. McCoy has provided clinical and classroom instruction in rheumatology and musculoskeletal topics to medical students, residents, fellows, and students in the physicians' assistant (PA) program. She has received the Making A Difference Award from the University of Michigan, the William D. Robinson University of Michigan Rheumatology Society Award, the Internal Medicine Outstanding Achievement Award at Mayo Clinic, and the Alfred S. Maschke Award at Case Western Reserve University Medical School. She has presented lectures and clinical research at national medical and scientific conferences, including annual meetings of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Rheumatology, and the Sjögren’s Symposium.
Dr. McCoy specializes in Sjögren’s disease. She established the nation's seventh Sjögren’s clinic at UW Health, and built the UW–Madison Sjögren’s biorepository.
Dr. McCoy's research aims to define how Sjӧgren’s disease develops with the ultimate goal of improving treatment options for patients with the disease.
