Professional Activities

Dr. Ryan Powell is a faculty member in the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology within the Department of Medicine. He is the Associate Director for Social Science at the University of Wisconsin Center for Health Disparities Research (CHDR). Dr. Powell also serves as the chair for the Health Disparities Research Working Group—a monthly meeting where UW faculty, staff, and trainees share their latest research developments and get feedback on their ongoing research from the working group.

Dr. Ryan Powell is dedicated to promoting health equity by facilitating, guiding, and promoting interdisciplinary collaborative science that leads to new research discoveries and practical ways to address the causes of health disparities. Dr. Ryan Powell’s research broadly concerns how social and environmental conditions and contexts over a lifetime (the exposome) affects brain health. This includes identifying the role that the military exposome has in influencing Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia risks.
