New faculty Q&A with Anthony Davis-Maxwell, MD
Anthony Davis-Maxwell, MD
Clinical Assistant Professor
Division of General Internal Medicine
What is your primary professional focus in any or all of our mission areas (clinical, research, and/or medical education)?
The majority of my work is clinical as a primary care physician. I love general internal medicine, and have a particular interest in health policy and advocacy. I also have a strong passion for medical education and look forward to working with residents and medical students.
What drew you to UW-Madison and the Department of Medicine?
I attended undergrad at UW, and have been clamoring to get back to Madison since! I was particularly excited about the Department of Medicine due to the incredible faculty here.
What are you most excited about during your first year with the department in this role?
I am most excited to be working with such inspiring colleagues and the excellent trainees!
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I love spending my free time with my wonderful partner and our 1-year-old son. Lately this has been mostly playing peek-a-boo and pretending his stuffed animals really need hugs and kisses.
Favorite piece of advice from a mentor or inspiring figure in your life?
One of my favorite attendings I worked with as a medical student and resident demonstrated to me that advocating for political policies that help our patients is NOT something that doctors should shy away from, and rather it is something we have a duty to do! This really encouraged me to fight to be the best advocate I can be for my patients, both inside and outside of clinic.
